The upper parts have good poplulations of brook trout andcutthroat trout. From its headwaters through Lyons, it is a very viable trout fishery, although the trout densities are not as high as in some other rivers there are still plenty of fish. Best of all, the South St. Vrain offers the greatest variety of challenges for anglers, and the nearby lakes also offer plenty of opportunities for some great fishing, too.
