Roy Anthony Hargrove (October 16, 1969 November 2, 2018) was an American jazz trumpeter. In 2014, he pled guilty to cocaine possession and was sentenced to two days of community service. He acted as sideman for jazz pianist Shirley Horn and rapper Common on the album Like Water for Chocolate and in 2002 with singer Erykah Badu on Worldwide Underground. But Hargrove always maintained his foothold in the mainstream jazz tradition; he saw his forays into other forms of black music as an extension of, rather than any departure from, that tradition.
